Find a way or make one!
The Seidl family has exhausted most of their savings trying to manage Brian's aggressive form of inflammatory arthritis and spondyloarthritis symptoms and preserve his quality of life, but Brian’s condition continues to worsen. Without a handicap-accessible home, Brian and his family are struggling for basic needs.
Our mission here at Southern Ornithological League is to facilitate teamwork, leadership, and personal development by creating a learning environment that is both physically and mentally challenging. Through scenario-based courses, you learn technical skills, and execute those skills in a specific context. Our courses are rooted in Army Special Forces doctrine and adapted to trials of the modern civilian world. You will learn new technical skills, and you will learn more about yourself. We will help you, personally and professionally, build your capacity to translate your vision into reality. We will help you find your way, or make one.
We also happen to love birds.
SOL operates under the banner of an ornithological organization, which I chose partly for fun and partly as a nod to one of my mentors. We presented bird watching as a lighthearted front for a more serious, membership-based initiative dedicated to training individuals in readiness and resilience, a secret society of sorts. In retrospect, secret societies often present an air of elitism. We are not that! We are open to all.
At SOL, we offer unique, often overlooked training to small groups of adventurous individuals. I am passionate about developing teamwork and leadership skills, fostering personal awareness, and enhancing problem-solving abilities. Our course catalog may be small, but it is crucial. Most of our courses are scenario-based, allowing participants to engage with practical applications of the unique skills we teach. These programs focus on leadership, teamwork, and resilience in austere and demanding conditions.
We reinforce the values emphasized across all courses: responsibility, accountability, and selflessness. We are not political activists, we do, however, espouse individual liberty, laissez faire attitudes, and service to community and organization by strengthening the individual. SOL believes in the tenets of Classical Liberalism and to a large degree, modern libertarianism. SOL draws its values from the principles of Christianity and the philosophy of Objectivism. We are always happy to debate these principles.
SOL courses are support and resource intensive, and complex. The success of these courses allows us to enhance the team and individual experience, to offer pro bono training to select individuals and groups, and to provide resources and support to various charity projects. The courses offered are specialized to the point that we feel compelled to vet all participants, and limit access to certain courses.
Why SOL? I introduced SOL as a venue for unique, challenging training. By virtue of careful vetting, it is also a venue to encourage open and free debate on current events, political, cultural, business, and religious issues. This is not meant to be a homogenous group of straight, white, Christian men. We welcome anyone who has genuine respect for individual liberty and personal accountability. We all have the right to believe as we choose, none has the right to impose that belief on others! We can all agree that teamwork, leadership, and individual resilience are important. Come train with us, you will learn new skills, and a little about yourself.
Ask about courses or just drop us a line; questions, observations, suggestions, or discussion. We're always open to new ideas and civil, objective debate.
